Costume Day
It's the second day of Homecoming but it felt like Halloween. Everybody was in great costume. The catch was you had to be a character from a book, movie, of fairytale. I was the evil queen from Snow White. One of my friends was a cave women from the Flintstones and it was really funny. This was a fun day because everybody participated and had fun with it. Some girls even got into character. Good thing no one was Godzilla. *tee hee*

Twin Day
Am I seeing double?! No, today is the first day of HOMECOMING!!!! Each day there will be a dress up day until Friday. Today was Twin Day!!! You pair up with someone and dress alike to look like twins. There's not just twins but triplets, quadruplets and so one. My twin and I went shopping so we had the same exact thing but it's OK if you don't look like a clone. THAT would be creepy.

Dedication

Today the Ann Richards dedication took place. Ambassadors took over and started giving tours to groups. Including the Richards family. The Student Council Officers gave out brochures and warmly greeted guests. The Ceremony opened up with a performance by the choir. Then many people, I can't remember most of them, gave great (and long) speeches including one from Ellen Richards. There was also a band performance. The ribbon was finally cut and the school was initially opened.

World Culters
When will they get along? In World Cultures the 6th graders are learning about Palestinian (Arab, Muslim) and Israeli (Jewish) conflict. Before this, I didn't even know there was a country called Israel, much less a city called Jerusalem. It started 1,000s of years ago when the Jews got kicked out by the Romans so the Arabs moved in and lived there for 1,000s of years but when the Jew came back about 60 years ago and told them to leave, the Arabs didn't want to leave so a war broke out and there is now a strong cultural hate between them. We are watching a documentary on it called "Promises". So far in this class, we have learned about different land forms, the names of the 7 continents and names of the 5 oceans. I just finished my World Cultures project on the 12 Keys of Culture. The 12 Keys of Culture are the 12 categories that define some one's culture easily. This is a great class and I love it. Praise to Ms.DiCaffa!!!

Court Yard Clean Up
I put on my dates post something about a Court Yard Clean Up and I'm going to tell you about it. My dad and I got out there at about nine and I couldn't believe how many people were out there!!! There were about 75 people and they were all pitching in!!! There was a group of people working on making a hill, another was laying down turf and you get the point. There were Bobcats rolling around everywhere picking up dirt and dropping it off somewhere else. Almost all the teachers were out there breaking a sweat too. I worked on the shrubs around the sign which was harder than it looks!!! If you ever drive past and see our courtyard, you'll see how much teamwork can change something (along with a bunch of Bobcats and professionals helpin')

PE
PE is really fun but it can be tiring. First you have to quickly get to the locker room and get changed, then you have to run 3 laps around the basket ball court, then you stretch. That's what you have to do EVERY day in PE. Right now we are practicing Volleyball which is my speciality so I get to help Coach Brown. She's starting at the basics for those who have never played before. Now she is making us do something a lot of kids my age don't do. Coach Brown is making us keep a food diary which includes what you ate and drank, where you were when you ate it, who you were with and if you exercised (not including PE). We even have and Ann Richards School Volleyball team, it's made up of 7th graders though. Well, that all I have to say about PE. Bye!!!!!!

STARS
The thing about STARS is that is shares a period with PE so we have STARS half of the time and PE the other. In STARS we will be learning and practicing being women leaders. We just finished poetry about ourselves and now we are talking about the time when women wanted jobs and men thought women were 'uppity'. We learned what that word meant before we even started the subject. This is not an elective so all the girls will practice becoming women leaders.
Science AP
I LOVE science. When we walk in we need to pick up our composition notebooks and we copy down the agenda that's on the screen. The agenda has the student expectation for that day, a warm up, and the agenda for the day. We just finished the Metric System which I now understand because an AWESOME trick my teacher taught us. Now Science Fair is coming up and and have a notebook just for that and today my class went to the library and we discussed different topics. I'm soo exited.
Math AP
I really like math and I'm good at what we're doing but that doesn't mean it's 2+3. We are learning about exponents, mean, median, mode, range, and different types of graphs. When we walk in the classroom we sit down quietly (some people talk), copy down our homework in our agenda and do the warm up on the screen. For Math you need a separate math binder. Then if you don't have your homework you get in big trouble. You also get a lot of homework in this class but if you just do it you can get it over with.

- You must be ready to take the steps to make a change.
- You must always try to make friends.

Day 4
Today I went to the cafeteria at 8:00 and I still wasn't late. Hee Hee that rhymes!!! When the students were dismissed I went to my Advisory. Instead of talking about yoga and rules the class started debating about the uniforms. Most of the students didn't like the uniforms but to me they do 3 BIG things for me...
- I can sleep later because I don't have to worry about what I'll wear the next day.
- Everyone looks the same so there is no teasing about fashion.
- You can think more about you work than your earrings.
Day 3
Today (well yesterday) was my third day here. We all went to cafeteria for assembly like I will do for the rest of the year. Then I went to Advisory and my teacher handed out the rules of yoga. After the next 2 weeks we will start our morning yoga. When the bell rang I went to Liberal Arts and we read poems and would try to figure what the author was saying and what we liked about it. We also took notes about mini stories we read and shared them. After, I went to art where we read a few pages from a text book about the Elements of art. We then did blind drawing where you don't look at your paper where you draw and only look at the thing you were drawing. When the bell rung I went to lunch (I go to lunch after second period). The food is AMAZING. I haven't eaten school lunch in 4 years!!! When I finished my lunch I went to World Cultures and we talked about the homework we were given on the first day. We all thought we were reading an article about a strange tribe in South America but really we were reading about our selfs. The writer of the article was American but wrote it as if he was from a foreign country. That gave use a taste of what it will be like to learn about different cultures and not to judge them instantly. After that we had Math Pre-Ap were we wrote down vocabulary words in our journal like exponents. The bell finally rang and we left school with our backpack full of HOMEWORK!!!!!!

B Day The Best
Today was B day so my classes were different. My courses were Science, S.T.A.R.S, PE, English, and S.T.E.M. First was Science which was taught by Ms.Harbert or Mr.Murry, both very nice and great teachers. Science Fair will be required at this school but I think that's great! Next was S.T.A.R.S. which stands for Success Through Academics, Responsibility, and Service, taught by Ms.Turner. S.T.A.R.S. is the leader ship class and it was the class Ann Richards was most excited about!!! Then PE who is taught by Coach Brown, a former Lady Longhorn. The cool thing about PE here is that in most schools, PE is only half the year but at Ann Richards PE is all year so we can stay healthy. Next is English taught by Ms.Langley of Ms.Fernandez. In English, the class will be like a giant workshop where we write what ever we want and practice our reading skills. Last for me is S.T.E.M. taught by Mr.Murry or Ms.Harbert. S.T.E.M. stands for Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Here we well learn about well, those 4 things. I chose this class because I want to be a Chemical Engineer when I grow up. A great course to take if you love Science. There are other things too like Band and Choir but I don't take those classes so you might need someone else for those 2 classes. That was day 2. If my next day comes in late like this one sorry. I'm still a child under rules and I can still get in trouble. Bye!!!

My First A Day
Today was my first day of school at the Ann Richards School!!! Reporters was EVERYWHERE!!!! All day we just fill questionnaires and talked about our selfs but I will explain my classes and such. Everyday is either an A day or a B day. We got syllabuses for every class too so we got an idea of what we'll be doing for the rest o the year. Today was an A day so for my schedule I had Liberal Arts, Art, World Cultures, and Math Pre-Ap. Everyday also the school has something called Advisory. It's just like homeroom except the whole school Advisories do the same lesson and there's always a lesson behind each activity. Liberal Arts (Humanities) is taught by Mrs.Langley (former Kealing teacher). In Humanities I will learn about our culture. Next is Art taught by Mrs.Fernandez who is also my Advisory teacher. In Art I will be able to work with many different art materials. After that I have World Cultures taught by Ms.DiCuffa or Mr.Washington. World Cultures is just a fancy word for Social Studies. My final period is Math Pre-AP taught by Mrs.Diaz and Mr.Murry. Math Pre-AP will be a math class that challenges student more that twice than regular math which is better for me. After I went back to Advisory and the day ended at 3:50.
